By MARA LEE maraleecourant.com A woman who raised a girl who was kidnapped from a New York hospital as an infant in 1987 will face federal kidnapping charges in court Monday, the day after she surrendered to FBI agents in Bridgeport. Ann Pettway who raised the girl in Bridgeport, was spotted there on Saturday. The daughter, whom she called Nejdra Nance, now 23, had learned her true identity after contacting the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and was reunited with her family last week in New York.
Pettway was wanted on a warrant for violating probation in North Carolina. According to the Raleigh News and Observer, Petway was working in a department store in Raleigh, where she was accused of taking nearly $50 in clothing and about $130 in cash. As a condition of her probation, she was not supposed to leave the state without permission. Pettway was seen in Bridgeport on Saturday when a pawn shop employee recognized her from media reports. The worker called police, who then reviewed surveillance video from the shop.
