Montgomery County Public Schools Reviews

Rating 4 out of 5
My experience with Montgomery County Public Schools has been quite varied. On the positive side, they offer a wide range of educational opportunities and resources. The schools generally have good facilities and a strong emphasis on academics, which is great for students looking to excel. However, there are some downsides too. One issue I've noticed is that the class sizes can be quite large in some schools, which can make it challenging for teachers to give individual attention to students who need it. Another concern is that the school system, like many others, faces budget constraints that sometimes affect extracurricular activities and support services. Overall, I appreciate the effort they put into providing quality education, but improvements could be made in areas like class sizes and ensuring adequate resources for all students. It would also be beneficial to see more focus on personalized learning approaches to cater to diverse student needs.

As a student who has been in MCPS for 12 years, I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of MCPS. Since my first day of Kindergarten, I have never once been in a classroom where there wasn't a diverse group of kids. MCPS allows children and parents of all different cultures, ethnicities, and races to come together and be apart of the school community. There has also never been any lack of opportunities. Students have been involved in a plethora of school activities and events, whether it be the annual International Night or a resume boosting internship; MCPS students are given the opportunity to learn about themselves and others as well as gain valuable experiences. However, I and several other students have started to feel our voices become dismissed. We as the student body value the safety of the school, and I would like for our school administration to hear and address those concerns without punishing or silencing students. We deserve equal respect and trust from our superiors.

Montgomery County's strength is in its cultural diversity and dedication to including all cultures in its programming. My English and History classes throughout my educational career always included diverse perspectives from a wide variety of cultures. Its weakness is in communication with parents and students. When a school's safety is threatened, which is happening increasingly often in Montgomery County, Admin often neglects informing students and parents in a timely manner. When they do, their responses are often vague. I have noticed that this only leads to more fear and rumors. Other than this, I can say that I've thoroughly enjoying learning with MCPS.
