Almost everybody I know, loves Pokemon, ROM hacks me, of course included since I've played about a billion of them at this point and because there are so many out there, it's hard to choose which ones to play well, I'm, going to help you guys with that today, because we'll be going over my top 10 favorite ROM hacks I'm not gonna lie.
This list was very hard for me to put together and could change at any moment if a rom hack gets an update or a new one gets released.
This list will also not include any fan games, even though I would love to put Pokemon in searches and stuff on here, I'm not going to be doing that because they deserve a list of their own in the future.
Also keep in mind that this is strictly my opinion.
So if you don't agree with me, that's totally fine I would love to hear which rum hacks you love in the comments down below I, just want to say one more thing, and that's that I'm running a giveaway on my Twitter right now, so you have a chance to win scarlet and violet on the day of release.
All you have to do is follow the instructions on the Tweet itself and maybe you'll be the lucky.
He wanted to get either Scarlet or Violet for free, good luck without any further Ado.
Let's jump right into my number 10 pick and this one is going to be Pokemon fused Dimensions, created by Dante z35.
This game is based on Pokemon fire red and, while the main story remains unchanged, this game's beauty lies in its absolutely Peak design of fusion Pokemon.
Yes, the game has total Abominations.
What the hell is this, but it also has the beauty that are serpidos and vinegar, and so many quality of life features like the physical special split generation, 5 repel system, which makes any game 10 times better and just so much more, but the main feature I love about this game is the shiny encounter raid, which has been upped by a ton.
I myself have played this game for countless hours, even capturing the entire shiny decks, and it recently got an update which added 150 new fused Pokemon.
So once I play that version, this might go even higher on the list, but for now it remains at a nice number.
I would love it if this game had like a backstory or an origin story to all the fusion Pokemon, and it wouldn't just be the regular fire red base game.
But still, if you love Fusion Pokemon, this game is a hundred percent for you, for the number nine spot, I'll be going for my first and only GameCube game on this list.
Pokemon XG next gen I recently played this game for a hundred hours and boy.
Was it worth it? Pokemon XD Gale of darkness is already my favorite Pokemon game of all time, and this just made it so much better.
While they once again didn't change the main story at all.
They added in so many things like over a hundred new Shadow Pokemon, which makes the game's replayability so much better and besides that, they also gave the Shadow Pokemon new moves like Shadow freeze, which can freeze an enemy, the only move in any Pokemon game.
That's a guaranteed freeze.
They gave Pokemon new abilities that suit them better made the game a lot more challenging, which I also liked, but not to the point where it feels unfair, because you have so many Pokemon available to yourself that have great movesets and abilities.
They also managed to include alolan forms which I found really cool to see in a Generation, 3 GameCube game and there's also a little bit of post game content added like capturing the legendary Hoenn, Trio and legendary beasts.
So if you decide to play this, one you'll definitely be good for the next couple of weeks.
The creator of this game is Stars and he did an absolute wonderful job, but it's time to get into our number 8 spot and over here we have our first custom region, which is the hupest region of Pokemon source, and that's also the main reason why I love this game.
It has its very own custom story, which is pretty damn interesting because you play as a boy named Asher and his mother and father actually created the evil team of this region called team Eclipse.
They are trying to create powerhouses of Pokemon called Eclipse Pokemon, which have different forms and are mainly just a lot stronger than regular Pokemon and, of course, as the main protagonist you can't let the evil team win so you're going to have to try and take them down.
I won't spoil too much about the game, so I'll just go over the features.
Now it does have his very own custom soundtrack, which is mostly just remixes of other game music, but it helps a ton with setting the tone of the game.
It also has its very own art design, which I find really appealing to look at.
Every Pokemon up until Generation 7 is available and there is 48 new Eclipse Pokemon, so you have a ton of catching to do too.
There is now also a soaring feature which lets you soar around.
The map like in Pokemon Omega, Ruby and Alpha Sapphire on a latias's back, which, in my opinion, is a really cool and Innovative way to get around a GBA, rom hack, and there is also a bunch of side quests in the game, with an actual Quest lock, so they can keep track of which quests you've already completed and which ones you still have to do.
Oh and did I mention the design of the Rival in this game.
It is top tier I, love Frio.
He is just amazing props.
The vitron on his team for making such a great rom hack, Pokemon, GS Chronicles, is going to be our number seven pick.
It's been created by Overlord Cactus and rookie Studios, and it remakes Pokemon, Gold and Silver in the best GBA fashion possible, starting off with a title screen, which already looks great.
The game offers an updated story of the regular Johto games.
The main plot does remain the same, but there is a lot of added scenes and some areas that have never been used before, like the Goldenrod sewers.
The game also expands a little bit more on the team rocket admins story, adding in some dialogue and events that aren't in the regular gold and silver every Pokemon from Generation 1 to 4 is available.
Mega Evolution is also included, which is a big bonus, and, yes, you can also Dynamax and gigantomax.
If you want to just like in the regular gold and silver, there will be a day and night cycle and depending on whether it is day or night different Pokemon will appear, besides that they gave the starter Pokemon new Mega Evolutions, which also look so astonishing, and the entire tile set and graphic style is just so aesthetically pleasing, I, just love looking at it, also no more need for HMS, as they also introduced poke rides.
So if you wanna experience, Pokemon, Gold and Silver on the Game Boy, this is the game.
You should go with popular ROM hacks, that's ever been created radical red, and there is a very good reason for its popularity, while mainly the story of fire red Remains, the Same.
They did add in some new events to spice things up.
They added in Mewtwo Giovanni event, the Team Rocket admins, which are now super cool and also menacing the fight, but the main reason why people play this game is because of its difficulty, which is perfect.
It's not too difficult to where you are getting frustrated, but it's also not easy, and for people that want a greater challenge.
Those guys can pick up hardcore mode, which is something that makes the main game, which is already hard even harder by removing EVs and giving the opponents even better teams for the people that want to play on easy mode.
That's also possible, but besides its difficulty, this game is notorious for how easy it is to build a team starting out with Pokemon.
Almost every single one is available from Generation 1 to 8.
Even the hisuian forms are in there right now.
Besides that, you have the deck snap which will allow you to search for specific Pokemon, and if you keep your chain high enough, your Pokemon will get better.
They will have better moves.
They will have better abilities, it's just so much fun to find that three star Pokemon with the right stats and moves to the feature next opponent.
Besides, that Pokemon have also gotten new, movesets and abilities to make certain Pokemon that are normally not viable now way better, and if you don't like a Pokemon's EV spread, you can always change that by going to the Evita leader talking about EVS, it's also really easy to grind them up, as there is a trainer available that will allow you to train any stat with a ton of money.
You can also give your Pokemon perfect stats.
You can buy Shiny Pokemon from the game corner, and on top of that, you can even randomize it in the game itself, which is something not a lot of ROM hacks can do.
I could keep rambling on about radical red features, but the main point is that this game is just so well optimized.
It's been created by Supercell and his team, and this is the definite way to play through the Kanto region.
Now, at the number 5 spot, we have another Pokemon Fusion game, but this one, in my opinion, is the best one out there.
It's called Fusion, 3 and I have already done multiple videos on it, because the Pokemon in this rum hack, look so flipping good, Grillo and Lou Gray, which are the creators of this rom hack.
First made this game in Spanish and I'm so glad this game was translated to English, because otherwise I probably never even, would have discovered it.
They have also made Pokemon Fusion, 1 and 2, which I have yet to play, but I have heard that this is by far the best one, and even though the main game does remain the same, which is a little bit disappointing.
The amount and quality that they put in the designs of their new forms is just astonishing for me to look at.
They even gave their Fusion Pokemon over world's price, which is something I've never seen before, and I didn't even know that was possible and all the fusions do also have their own lore and descriptions in the Pokedex.
So you can read about him if you want to I, mean look at Ray Tina and tell me this game isn't awesome: let's get right into number four now, which is going to be storm silver created by drayano, despite being quite an old rom hack.
Already it is a catch em, all one! You can get every Pokemon up until Generation 4 in this game, but that is not why I love it a couple of months ago, I did a 100 hour, video on this game and completed everything.
The main things I took away from this game is that the difficulty is pretty damn good.
It's once again, not too hard to the point where they get frustrated, but it's also not too easy.
You still have to like kind of build a team or really over level your Pokemon.
If you want to get through it, since most trainers, teams have been updated, and that's just always a plus point, but where this game really thrives.
For me personally is the scripted events that they added in, for example, you can now capture Giratina to yoga Palkia and every other, legendary and mythical that you may want with most of them having their very own event.
That's just been really well thought.
True, for example, if you want to capture our see, is you have to get every single plate in the game and also capture all other Pokemon before you can encounter it and the place where you encounter? It is the xinjia ruins, which is something that isn't used in the main hard golden Soul Silver and he's now also working on a new version of the game, which will apparently be even better.
So I can't wait until that one comes out too.
If you want to play the best version of HeartGold and soul silver on the DS, this will be your go-to game.
Let's move on to number three, which is also made by Dre Yano that has been updated recently with the help of Apex cubed and it's called Pokemon Blaze Black 2 Redux I personally have never played the regular Blaze Black 2, so I can't judge that game, but this really set the standard for Generation 5, ROM hacks.
In my opinion, just like Pokemon storm silver.
The game has so many quality of life changes.
The game also has new game modes, easy Challenge and black City.
Every Pokemon is once again available and once again, just like in storm silver has their very own event, which is really cool to see and the triple and rotation battles that have been added in Pokemon, Black and White are also used more frequently in this game.
So there's a lot more fun in battling too shiny odds have also been increased quite a bit, but the real thing that made me pick this game in front of Pokemon.
Storm silver is its post game since I'm, still in the process of making my Blaze Black to Redux video I'm not going to spoil too much about it.
But there is different universes involved and you just gotta play it for yourself to realize how good this game really is.
It is by far the best generation 5 game.
I have personally played and I feel like everybody needs a piece of this at number two.
We have Pokemon Unbound in the last couple of years.
This game has taken the ROM hacking World by storm.
It has its very own, fleshed out region called the Boris region with a rich history, and it even has a great War involved with the secret weapon of generation 6., and while that war is over now, there is a new evil team called the Shadows.
Who is trying to relocate this secret weapon to do experiments with it and that's not something that the protagonist can just ignore.
It is one of the best stories in romhack, history and Skelly, and his team did an amazing job.
Creating this wonderful piece of art.
There is so many twists and turns in this story.
So many unique and cool locations with an art style, that's top of the mill, and they have done so well to create the perfect package for a new Pokemon game like game free, could take this and probably just release sit as a real game, and people would love it.
They push the engine of Pokemon Fire Red to its limit by adding in so many quality of life features an amazing new soundtrack that could rival the ones of Game Freak themselves.
I, sometimes even listen to it in my free time, because it's just that catchy.
Let's talk a bit about the quality of life changes.
It has basically all of the things that radical red has a deck snap, raidens Dynamax, Mega Evolution an auto run button unlimited backspace, new hm system, difficulty modes, unique mission system with over 80 missions.
You could play this game for over a hundred hours and not even be half done with it, which is what I did.
You can also customize your own character, which makes the game feel even more unique, just like in Redux and storm silver.
Almost every legendary has its very own unique way of capturing it, and every Pokemon is available.
They even added in custom puzzles, which was really cool to see, and the post game can get you hooked in for hours and hours upon end.
The game is also not fully finished it and we're still waiting on updates for it.
So even more content is on the way and many others are also waiting to see what they bring next.
So if you want a new and fresh look at Pokemon, I highly recommend checking out Unbound.
Now we have come to my favorite rom hack of all time, Team Rocket Edition.
As a kid I've, always dreamed of being able to work for the evil team and steal other people's Pokemon.
I know it sounds really evil, but it's just something that has always intrigued to me and Team Rocket Edition.
Just does it perfectly.
You are put into the organization as a measly grunt, basically having nothing to back you up as most of your Pokemon are totally useless, but you can work your way up in the Team Rocket chain becoming an admin, an executive and eventually even the Boss, by stealing Pokemon across the region and crafting a perfect team, and you also follow the story of red who is trying to take down the entirety of Team Rocket and since normally he always wins.
You're now going to have the opportunity to make the good guy lose or maybe red isn't even a good guy.
Maybe he isn't even a real person.
The game makes you question so many things, because there is so much lore and backstory about Oak Red, Team, Rocket, Giovanni, Gym, Leaders I have never had a story, pull me in so much as in Team Rocket Edition, even though it's been two years since I played the game.
I still think about it from time to time.
Thinking damn this game was so good and it might not offer the replayability and features that Unbound and radical red give you.
But the story is just so good that it just sticks with you and I'm, really hoping that they will bring out a Team Rocket Edition for Johto as well, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
A cool example of this game is that Missingno at the end of the game is trying to destroy everything, but you, the quote-unquote bad guy, manages to capture it and save the entire world.
This game also happens to reference the great Pokemon war that Lieutenant Serge used to fight him and is a big backbone to the entire storytelling of this game.
The game also reveals so many things that normally, when you play as red you can't see, and besides that there is also a morality system and side quests that you can complete, because a ton of NPCs will request your help for independent criminal missions, which can then Grant you bonus, perks or items and sometimes you'll even be able to double cross some of these NPCs, which might lead to bad consequences in the future.
I could talk hours and hours about how much I love this game, but I don't want to spoil too much.
So if you want to know more about Team, Rocket, Edition, I, highly recommend checking it out for yourself or maybe watching my entire video, explaining everything that happens on it.
Colonel Saul did an amazing job, creating my favorite rom hack of all time and I highly doubt.
Anything would be able to top it unless he's going to make that long-awaited Sequel and make it even better.
So these were my top 10 favorite ROM hacks of all time.
Let me know what you thought of the list and what you would change about it yourself and do give keep in mind that I've obviously not played every rom hack, Under, the Sun, so there might be some better ones out there.
So definitely, let me know in the comments down below which ones I should play with all of that.
Out of the way, I want to thank my membership and patreon supporters for supporting the channel.
