Why is Mountain Dew Baja Blast so hard to find? ›

Gallery. Baja Blast is a Franchise Exclusive Mountain Dew flavor available since July 2004 only at Taco Bell restaurants. While originating as a Taco Bell exclusive flavor, it then received many retail summer releases until January 2024, when it turned into a permanent flavor for its 20th "Bajaversary" and beyond.

Both MTN Dew Baja Blast and MTN Dew Baja Blast Zero Sugar will hit retail shelves nationwide starting this month, January 2024, and remain available all year. (They have, it's worth noting, occasionally been available in retail stores as limited-time summer releases — but never before year-round.)

Baja Blast was first introduced at Taco Bell in 2004 as a fast-food rarity, a soda flavor exclusive to one chain of restaurants. That soda-fountain-only monopoly ended in 2014 when Mtn Dew finally hit store shelves in cans and bottles for the first time, although only as limited releases over the years.

Specifically, a regular serving of this delicious and refreshing beverage contains about 49 grams of sugar. This is quite a bit of sugar, equal to around 12 teaspoons, and it's important to keep in mind while enjoying this drink, especially if you're monitoring your sugar intake.

Both Diet and Zero use Aspartame as their sweetener of choice. It's interesting to note that Zero has it higher in their ingredients list. They also use concentrated orange juice, whereas Diet just uses citric acid.

Baja Blast has been sold in stores before, but typically only for a limited time and in limited quantities. The 2024 release will include both regular and a zero sugar version of Baja Blast that will be available in cans and bottles nationwide.

The Mountain Dew flavor started as a Taco Bell exclusive in 2004. As it grew in popularity over the years, PepsiCo released limited quantities in stores on a seasonal basis. For the most part, though, quenching your thirst for Baja Blast meant making a Taco Bell run. That's all changed for the new year.
